Bubba Watson stops by Dubsdread

My girlfriend Tara sent me a great video this morning. We recently moved to Miami from Orlando. While in Orlando, I tried to get out and golf as much as possible. Granted, it was never enough, but Orlando was loaded with great golf courses.

The closest golf course to our apartment was Dubsdread, an historic, little public course that is just on the outskirts of downtown. It’s fairly easy to get there and they keep it in pretty good shape.

And it’s not easy! The fairways are tight, so that makes challenging.

I’ve seen (and had) some pretty good shots on that course, a lot of good memories. But I can’t say I ever saw a pro golfer stop by for a round. But the other day, one did – none other than the 2012 Masters Champion, Bubba Watson.

Bubba crashed the course and surprised a lot of people (and made their day as well), but randomly stopping by and playing a few holes, working the cash register and stopping in to the Tap Room for a little grub.

It’s cool to see big-time athletes do this kind of thing. It’s great for fans and it proves that ‘celebrity’ hasn’t gone to their heads.

A tip of the cap to Bubba Watson for spending his day off on the links – no money on the line, no big crowds, just a guy having a good time and surprising the hell out average golfers like me.

But I am a bit bummed he didn’t bring his hovercraft.

  • actually up until the 40s there was a PGA tournament at Dubsdread. very famous course with the likes of Snead, Hogan, etc. all playing there.

    • Thanks, Ty – good point. I remember reading that but forgot to add that in. I just have never seen any famous players there that I can remember. Keep your putts straight. Na na na annnnnnannanana.
