Old Amway Arena to implode in March

[singlepic id=7 w=360 h=240 float=left] I worked on a pretty neat story today. The old Amway Arena in Orlando will be imploded in March. Originally, developers were going to take it down piece by piece, but that wouldn’t be fun. BLOW IT UP! Actually, it’ll cost the same ($2 million from the city and the Creative Village Developers will pick up the rest), and will be cleared out by April. You can read and watch the story here.

There’s a very slight possibility that Hollywood could get involved. The old Orlando City Hall was blown up by Warner Brothers back in 1991. The shot was used in Lethal Weapon 3. No plans yet for the Amway to be in a movie, but you never know! Good times.

Here’s a blurb:

The contractor felt it was the safest, most expedient way to take down the building,” said Sean Flanagan of ZMG Construction.

[singlepic id=8 w=180 h=240 float=right] The days of the old Amway Arena are counting down. Whether you know it by the nickname the Jungle, the TD-Waterhouse Centre or the other nickname, O-Rena, the Amway Arena is on its last legs.

“The cheap seats in the old Amway were really good,” said resident Josh Kirby.

All in all, it was fun to learn it’ll go out with a bang. They plan to blow it up on a weekend morning. All in an effort to wake you up from your slumber while keeping the public safe. Ha!
